A Craigieburn angry painter who threatened to shoot a government worker while making fun of her accent has been told his victim was just doing her job.

Ramiz Adam, 24, fronted the Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday where he pleaded guilty to using a carriage service to menace.

In April last year, Ramiz received a phone call from a government worker wanting to arrange a risk assessment.

However, on the phone, Ramiz told the female officer to “f--- off”, made fun of her accent and threatened to “shoot her”.

The court heard when the police questioned Ramiz, he denied making the threats and instead said the victim was harassing him and he had a “right to not talk to her”.

He said he should be able to “press charges” himself.

Adam’s defence lawyer said his client had never met his victim and did not know what she looked like.

“He is 24, and he’s doing what he can … he has kept out of trouble for years,” he said, adding Ramiz had had no matter in front of the courts for a number of years.

“He is employed as a casual painter at his brother’s business when it’s short-staffed.”

Magistrate David Langton said Adam’s threat to the government worker was unfair.

“This person was doing her job, and she didn’t deserve this kind of abuse on the phone,” he said.

Adam was convicted and fined $1000.
