Women and children are being urged to be on the lookout for a “weirdo” who has allegedly stalked several mothers around the Coburg area.
Several women have taken to social media to warn others about the man’s alleged behaviour, with claims he has followed them from Coburg station, Woolworths Coburg, Anderson Reserve on Lidia St, along the Upfield bike path from O’Hearn St to Bell St and also around Coburg parks.
One mum claimed the “weirdo” was holding a brown envelope in one hand and pretending to be talking to someone, who then followed her and her two toddlers from Linda St park in Coburg on April 30.
“The man, after a few laps around the park, decided to sit at one of the benches, after 30 min or so, we decided to leave as it was getting late (5pm ish) and this guy started following us,” she wrote.
“At that point I was freaking out, so as soon as I noticed he was behind us, I decided to stop and approach few people that were there with their dogs … I was able to feel a bit more comfortable with them around, thinking the guy who was following me will leave but instead he came to us and start asking for our names … I was so scared, I did not know what to do if those people with their dogs weren’t there …
Just be aware of your surroundings mamas.”
Another woman said she was left traumatised after the man allegedly followed the woman and her toddler from Coburg station to Coburg market.
“I saw a guy staring at me and following me and he gave me the creeps … he was definitely very intimidating and kept walking behind me looking me up and down,” she claimed.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said investigating reports of a “man seen loitering in the Coburg area”.
“It is believed a man has approached women between 30 April and 8 May,” she said.
No arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.
