Police investigate after woman dies in Sunbury house fire

A woman has died following a house fire in Sunbury this morning, with Arson and Explosives Squad detectives investigating the blaze.

A woman has died following a house fire in Sunbury this morning.

Emergency services were called to a property in Baggygreen St just after 7am.

Police spokeswoman Creina O’Grady said a woman, believed to be the resident of the address, died at the scene.

“The exact circumstances surrounding the fire and death are still to be determined,” she said.

Arson and Explosives Squad detectives are investigating.

Nearby residents reported hearing sirens from emergency service vehicles just after 7am.

A CFA spokesman said four fire crews from Sunbury and Diggers Rest brought the blaze under control in about 30 minutes.
