Victorians living in Melbourne’s north have the hottest chance of taking home $150 million from Thursday night’s Powerball.
The division one prize is a record in Australian lottery history, and data released by The Lott showed Victoria had the most lottery wins in the 2018-2019 financial year.
The data also showed suburbs in Melbourne’s north had sold the most division one winning tickets, with 20 in total for that period.
In all, $35,462,919.97 had been won from division one winning tickets sold in the northern region.
The Lott spokeswoman Bronwyn Spencer said the northern suburbs of Melbourne had experienced a bumper year for division one winners.
“Lottery games are random games of chance and therefore there is no way to predict where the wins will land but from time to time we do see clusters of wins in different regions,” she said.
“The northern suburbs of Melbourne have experienced a huge year for division one winning entries.

Ms Spencer said players could be superstitious about where they purchase their entries from.
“Some tell us they like to try their luck at an outlet which has sold a division one winning entry, while others say they try somewhere new because they don’t believe lotto lighting can strike twice,” she said.
“It will be interesting to see if the trend continues and the northern suburbs of Melbourne continue to deliver division one wins.”
