PARKING at Greensborough train station will be thrown into chaos, with commuter car spaces to be culled, planning documents reveal.

North East Link business case documents seen by the Leader state spaces at the station will be slashed — but an extra 60 parking spots to be built at Watsonia station to compensate.

“Watsonia station access improvements (include) additional car parking (approximately 60 extra car spaces) to facilitate loss of parking at Greensborough railway station,” the documents read.

The introduction of the additional parking at Watsonia station could see the carpark turned multi-level, according to the documents.

The State Government did not respond to the Diamond Valley Leader before deadline.

North East Link Authority chief executive Duncan Elliott was tight-lipped on future plans, when asked by the Leader.

“Work is well underway on updated plans for North East Link, which will be released in the coming months,” he said.

“This will include more detail about urban design and spaces around the new freeway.”

Banyule mayor Mark Di Pasquale was blindsided by the plan.

“We haven’t had any discussions about any car spaces being lost … that’s a little disturbing,” Cr Di Pasquale said.

“We heard the duplication announcement but nothing further on what would happen to the carpark, let alone a loss of spaces.

“This is another example of where we find out information after everyone else.”

Cr Di Pasquale said he continued to have “heartbreaking” conversations with residents who were still unsure about what was happening to their home or business, since option A was picked for the North East Link.

Eltham Liberal candidate Nick McGowan said it was “bad news for locals” and would place an “unbearable” strain on “overloaded” station car parks.

“Car parks are already full by early morning,” Mr McGowan said.
