Moonee Valley parking permits ‘too sticky’ to use
How hard is it to stick a parking permit to a car? In the northern suburbs it’s taking way more effort than it should, baffled residents say.

Moonee Valley residents are ap-peeling to the council to fix a sticky and longstanding problem.
Locals complained to Moonee Valley council last year because the 2018 permits were not sticky enough, and fell off car windows.
So the council then made the permits so sticky they are now almost impossible to peel off the letters they come with.

Some weary locals have just stuck the letters to their windscreens.
Debbie Kingston said she had to wash the paper off the sticker, then use sticky tape to secure the permit to her window.
Christie Gulbis said she manage to peel one permit off perfectly, but a second got stuck.
She had to order a replacement from the council and was told her “technique was not correct”.
Lisa Frazer also had to order a replacement.

Richard Daniel said he called the council about the issue and was told there was “a specific way you have to peel off the labels for it to work properly”.
“I rang up and was told to not to peel where it says to peel, but in the corner instead. In other words, so the opposite of what it tells you,” Mr Daniel said.
“Then the woman tried to get me to come in to council so she could explain it,” he said.
It’s been two weeks and he is still waiting for a replacement.
In a written statement Moonee Valley chief executive Bryan Lancaster said the council had received feedback from residents that the parking permits were sticking and ripping when removed from their letters.
“This is happening when the stickers are removed from a side other than the side indicated by the arrow,” he said.
“If any residents are having trouble removing their permit from the printed letter, or their permit is damaged, they can request a replacement.”
The council was working on a “smart solution”, he said, to phase out sticker.
