A change to the Mernda skyline will deliver better showers for people in Mernda and South Morang.
Yarra Valley Water has started work on a 15m high, 35m wide water tank on a hillside along Cravens Rd to ensure good water pressure is delivered to Mernda and South Morang houses.
The mammoth tank will hold 12 megalitres, equivalent to five Olympic swimming pools, worth of water.
Yarra Valley Water managing director Pat McCafferty said the tank was one of the “critical projects” coming to Melbourne’s outer north.
Yarra Valley Water purchased land for the tank 10 years ago, however construction did not begin until population growth required it to.
About 230m of water mains will be constructed under Cravens Rd to connect the tank to the water network, Mr McCafferty said.
Work is expected to be complete by the end of the year.
