A MULTI-million dollar upgrade of Melbourne-Lancefield Rd is complete.
The $6.7 million revamp includes two new lanes at Monegeetta and Clarkefield, allowing the original road to be used as southbound overtaking lanes.
The new lanes came after years of community campaigning for improved safety on the often treacherous 28km road.

Macedon Ranges councillor Joe Morabito, who rallied for safety improvements for more than a decade, said there had been 24 fatalities, 300 non-fatal accidents and countless near misses.
“The passing lanes are going to make a huge difference for commuters coming from Lancefield and Romsey as they now know they can get in front of slow moving vehicles,” he said.
VicRoads estimates about 7000 drivers pass through Monegeetta on Melbourne-Lancefield Rd daily.
The opening of the Monegeetta passing lanes follow the completion of the Clarkefield passing lanes last May.
Northern Victoria state Liberal MP Amanda Millar said she was happy with the delivery of the project after the community pressed for improvements.
“I’m pleased to see the completion of this very important project,” she said.
“The new lanes will help encourage safer driver behaviour by providing motorists with safer overtaking opportunities.”
The road terminates to the west at Sunbury-Bulla Rd, which has also seen a string of safety improvements added in recent years including roundabouts and safety barriers.
