A man has been hospitalised after he hit a tree while racing another car in Mill Park, while a bomb was found a property in Reservoir. See the crimes making news in the north and northwest.

Dashcam captures brazen ute break-in

A man was taken to hospital after he crashed while racing another car in Mill Park.

Police said a silver Hyundai sedan and a blue Holden Commodore station wagon were seen racing each other along Childs Rd about 12.15am on December 3.

Police spokesman Glenn Manison said the Hyundai lost control at the intersection of Morang Drive and hit a tree.

“The male driver was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries while a female passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries,” he said.

Police believe the driver of the Commodore stopped at the scene next to the crashed Hyundai before speeding off along Childs Rd towards Epping.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who may have dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers.

BULLEEN

A man has been arrested after a carjacking where a driver had his Mercedes Benz stolen at gunpoint. The incident happened in Bulleen, in Melbourne’s northeast about 2am on November 14. The alleged offender was arrested at a house in Pakenham on December 3 by Special Operations Group members. The 20-year-old man was taken into custody and is assisting with inquiries.

RESERVOIR

A bomb was found and detonated by police at a property in Reservoir on December 3. The Bomb Response Unit was called to the Joan Ct home in Melbourne’s north and the device was detonated. The property was raided about 1.50pm. Police found four stolen cars and a stolen motorcycle, along with the improvised explosive device. Specialist bomb disposal equipment was brought into the house and the road was blocked off. There was no one at the house at the time.

ESSENDON

A person was treated by paramedics after they were exposed to a chemical spill in Essendon. Fire crews responded to the spill at a building on Leslie Rd about midday on November 27. Their investigation found a small amount of Formaldehyde had spilt and 30 firefighters isolated the site and moved all occupants to a safe area. Firefighters wearing splash suits and breathing apparatus then worked to neutralise the chemicals, which was caused by an accidental breakage of a small container.

MOONEE VALLEY

Moonee Valley woman Jade Earl is wanted by police for allegedly breaching a community corrections order and driving matters. Police are appealing for public assistance to locate and arrest the 36-year-old. Earl is described as 155cm tall, of a thin build with brown hair and brown eyes. She is known to frequent Melbourne and Moonee Valley. Police have released an image of Earl in the hope someone can provide information on her whereabouts.

MOONEE VALLEY / MORELAND / DAREBIN

Police have appealed for public help to arrest Sime Govic who is wanted over serious driving, drugs and theft charges. The 26-year-old is described as 200cm tall, of a medium build with short brown hair and brown eyes. Leading Senior Constable Adam West said Govic is known to visit Moonee Valley, Moreland, Fairfield and Darebin. Police have released an image of Govic in the hope someone can provide information on his whereabouts.

BALWYN NORTH

An elderly woman has escaped from a burning home after it went up in flames in Balwyn North. Fire crews received multiple calls from witnesses who saw lots of smoke, embers and flames coming from the Belmore Rd property just before 5pm on December 1. An elderly woman safely evacuated from the building before the MFB arrived. About 30 firefighters brought the blaze under control in 46 minutes. The fire started at the rear of the two-storey brick house and spread into the roof. Asbestos was also found. The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.

FITZROY

A veranda collapsed onto power lines in Fitzroy about 3am on November 30. The MFB said firefighters were called to the George St house where they found a veranda awning of a single storey brick townhouse had collapsed and was resting on powerlines. Firefighters isolated power and gas and called the power company for help.

PRESTON / MILL PARK / SUNSHINE

A warrant has been issued for 22-year-old Ilias Hassan who failed to appear at court on burglary, theft and driving charges. Hassan is described as 170cm tall, of a thin build with long black hair in braids. He regularly uses public transport and is known to visit Sunshine, Preston and Mill Park. Police have released an image of Hassan in the hope that someone may have information on his whereabouts.

SUNSHINE WEST

Five teenagers have been charged after they allegedly evaded police in a stolen car in the early hours of December 4. Police tracked the allegedly stolen Honda sedan travelling away from the CBD on CityLink after it failed to stop about 4.20am. They then deployed sticks in Sunshine West but the car continued to drive along the Western Freeway with the front tyres shredded before it came to a stop on Ferris Rd, Melton South after failing to negotiate a roundabout. Five teenagers were arrested trying to run from the car. Melton detectives charged all five with theft of motor vehicle, dangerous driving while being pursued and handling stolen goods. The teenagers will face a children’s court at a later date.

SUNSHINE WEST

An unsupervised learner driver crashed into a house in Sunshine West on December 3. Police said a black Jeep was travelling along Joan St when the driver lost control about 7.40pm. It drove through the fence of a neighbouring home before veering into the front area the house, causing extensive damage. An occupant was inside the house at the time but was uninjured. The learner driver and sole occupant the car, a 19-year-old woman from Sunshine West, was not injured in the crash. She will be interviewed by police at a later date and is expected to be charged on summons.

MAIDSTONE

Two women and two men have been arrested after a drug raid in Maidstone on December 3. Officers from the Altona North Divisional Response Unit allegedly found drugs and cash during a search of a house in Cambridge St about 5pm. Senior Constable Adam West said police have charged a 37-year-old Cairnlea man, a 37-year-old Maidstone man, a 36-year-old Cairnlea woman and a 40-year-old woman.

Crooks steal caravans in Melbourne's north

SYDENHAM

A 1983 Holden Commodore has been stolen from a house in Sydenham. Police said two offenders got into the garage of a Delbridge Drive property sometime between the evening of November 30 or early hours of December 1. They then drove off in the Holden sedan, registration SLE 346. Police spokesman Glenn Manison said the car had a custom navy blue and silver paint job and custom wheels.

HURSTBRIDGE / NORTHCOTE

Police want to identify a man after an alleged sexual assault on the Hurstbridge line. The man allegedly assaulted a woman from Parliament Station before exiting at Westgarth station in Northcote about 5.40pm on August 28. The man police want to speak with is caucasian, aged in his late 40s, 180cm tall with a solid build and unshaven. He was wearing a dark green beanie, grey scarf and light blue business shirt.

ST ALBANS

A pedestrian died after she was hit by a car in St Albans on December 5. Police said a Toyota SUV was turning right from McKechnie St into Main Road West when it collided with a woman about 2.50pm. The woman died at the scene. Detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit are investigating.

TOOLERN VALE

A stolen car was found dumped and destroyed in Toolern Vale in the early hours of December 6. Police were called to Blackhill Rd and Ryans Lane after CFA alerted police to the damaged car when responding to reports of a grass fire just before 2.30am. Sergeant Julie-Anne Newman said it appeared the grass fire was sparked after the car was set alight. Detectives are investigating and it is being treated as suspicious. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

MEADOW HEIGHTS

Four people, including a Meadows Heights woman, have been arrested after an alleged carjacking in Doveton last month. Two teenagers were allegedly threatened with a firearm and a shot was fired when their car was stolen in Claret St on November 19. Armed Crime Squad detectives arrested the 32-year-old woman in Melbourne on December 5. She was charged with aggravated carjacking and remanded to face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court. Two women and a man were also arrested in Cranbourne North and Noble Park. A 31-year-old Cranbourne North man was charged with aggravated carjacking and reckless conduct endangering life. A 28-year-old Doveton woman was charged with aggravated carjacking and a 23-year-old Cranbourne North woman was charged with aggravated car jacking. The trio faced Melbourne Magistrates’ Court and the Cranbourne North man and Doveton woman were remanded, while the Cranbourne North lady was bailed. All three will appear again at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 28 February, 2020. Both victims were uninjured during the incident.
