A young man killed in a tragic workplace accident in Epping has been remembered as “kind-hearted and humble”.
Vireakboth Sok (Nak), 23, who had only recently moved to Australia from Cambodia, was killed at the Melbourne Market at about 5.30am on Monday, August 2.
In a statement on its website, the Market said the incident involved a stationary truck and an electric vehicle.
“Sadly, the driver of the electric vehicle has lost his life,” the statement said.
Family member Danni Eang has started a GoFundMe page to support Nak’s parents, who still live in Cambodia, to come to Australia and attend his funeral, to say a final goodbye to their son.
“Nak was such an incredible young humble man, kind-hearted, loving personality, full of passion, dreams, and a long life plan ahead,” she said.
“Nak … recently came to Australia striving for a better life and to fulfil his dreams.
“Little did we know, our beloved Nak, who had gone to work just as all of us do, tragically lost his life and will never return home again.”
Danni said Nak came to Australia not only to gain a better life for himself but also to support his family, and improve their lives.
“I want people to remember him as such a loving person, how inspiring he was as a person, and all the things he did for his parents and his family,” she said.
“He is such a lovely person, and everyone absolutely loved him – everyone that got to know him, they loved him.
“It brings us deep sorrow to our hearts knowing that Nak died alone, he suffered alone. His parents received a call regarding his death, of course, (which) is the worst kind of phone call any parent could ever receive.
Victoria Police and WorkSafe are investigating the crash.
