A shot was fired at a father and a teenager was robbed at gunpoint in a “frightening” crime spree in Melbourne's north overnight.
Police are hunting for three people allegedly involved in a dispute that began about 9pm in Maguire St, Lalor.
Mill Park detective Acting Sergeant Matt McKenzie said a 41-year-old man was approached at his family home by a man carrying a shotgun and threats were made.
After arguing in the street the trio took off in a car, believed to be a stolen Nissan X-Trail, with the alleged victim following in his vehicle.
Police believe at this stage the victim and offenders weren’t known to each other.
After some time driving around Lalor, the 41-year-old victim ended up behind the Nissan on Blessington Ave.
The trio then fired a shot from the Nissan into the victim’s vehicle before the two cars collided.
The trio fled and the victim went to a nearby home for safety.
“That shot could have easily impacted the windscreen and caused an injury but thankfully that didn’t occur,” Acting Sgt McKenzie said.
The trio then approached an 18-year-old Lalor man sitting in a silver Skoda sedan in Carney St, Lalor, threatening him with a gun, before an altercation took place between the victim and offenders.
“The second victim, who was completely unaware of what’s just occurred …. is ultimately robbed at gunpoint for their motor vehicle,” Detective Acting Sergeant McKenzie said.
“It’s really disgraceful and quite frightening.”
Police believe there are at least three offenders, both men and women.
After spending Wednesday speaking to multiple victims, Acting Sgt McKenzie described the crime spree as “majorly concerning”.
“I would say that the community as a whole would be majorly concerned along with police about any gun related incident,” he said.
“This particular incident is quite deplorable in that the male is at the front of the family home where he is threatened.”
Police are asking anyone who may have footage or information about the incident to come forward.
