A partnership between the Islamic Museum of Australia and La Trobe University aims to promote cultural awareness and social inclusion for Islam.
The $15,000 prize for Muslim artists will be part of the 2019 Australian Muslim Artists exhibition.
The winner of the acquisitive prize will be announced when the exhibition is opened on September 12.
Islamic Museum chairman Moustafa Fahour said the partnership was born from a commitment to shared values.
“(La Trobe’s) support of our flagship art exhibition, highlighting the work of Australian Muslim artists … will certainly elevate the exhibition to the next level,” he said.
La Trobe vice chancellor Professor John Dewar said the award reinforced the university’s commitment to connection with all communities.
“Together we are looking at opportunities including teacher training in Islamic cultures, the development of new curricula in journalism and work integrated learning opportunities,” he said.
