It’s been a long wait for Melburnians desperate to spread their wings.
First stuck to within 5km of our homes, now 25km, many have dreamt of finally being allowed to hit the road when coronavirus restrictions ease.
Regional Victoria has no shortage of amazing experiences on offer to travellers, when we’re finally given the green light to pack our bags.
Here are some of the best experiences to check out.
SCONES AT THE AIREYS INLET LIGHTHOUSE
There’s so many amazing towns along the Great Ocean Road, but you can’t go past Aireys Inlet for its amazing Split Point Lighthouse – featured in the hit TV Show ‘Round the Twist.
The Lighthouse Tea Rooms also have some of the best scones around, making it the perfect pit stop for afternoon tea.
SPOT A PLATYPUS IN THE OTWAYS
A truly magical time awaits visitors to Lake Elizabeth in the Otways. Otway Eco Tours offer experiences including Paddle with a Platypus, allowing guests to head out on canoes to spot the elusive mammals.
ADMIRE THE KINGLAKE WATERFALL
The majestic Masons Falls is a must for bushwalkers. Part of the Kinglake National Park, follow the Masons Falls Walk for 700m to the waterfall lookout platform. You may also spot wallabies and the superb lyrebird on your way.Other waterfalls worth checking out include Steavenson Falls near Marysville and Erskine Falls near Lorne.
CHECK OUT THE PENGUIN PROTECTORS IN WARRNAMBOOL
Made famous in the 2015 film Oddball, Maremma dogs protect the penguin population on Warrnambool’s Middle Island. Maremma ambassador dogs spend time at Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village, interacting with visitors and helping to educate people about environmental conservation.
GO FOR A SWIM OR SURF IN THE OCEAN
After months of being inside, even the icy temperatures won’t be enough to stop some keen swimmers and surfers heading back to the beach. From Barwon Heads to Phillip Island, there’s no shortage of options.
GO FOR A HIKE AT WILSON’S PROM
There’s no shortage of amazing walks on offer at Wilson’s Prom, the southernmost tip of mainland Australia. Camping is a popular choice with many visitors to region.
HAVE A WINE IN THE KING VALLEY
Visitors can sip some of the best wine in Victoria while enjoying the stunning scenery in the King Valley. Popular spots include Pizzini Wines while beer fans love King River Brewing.
SPLASH DOWN IN WARBURTON
Yarra Ranges Council recently launched the new water park, playspace and recreation area in the beautiful town of Warburton, also home to stunning Redwood Forest.
