Kawsar Naboulsi lied about stabbing and gun incident, police allege

A wannabe Campbellfield actor waiting for her big break has been called a “chronic liar” in court after she allegedly made hoax calls to police and tried to ram them with her car.

A teen criminal and aspiring actor finally got her television debut but it didn’t pan out as well as she may have hoped.

Kawsar Naboulsi, 18, played a starring role in her video link from jail during her bail application at the Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court on Monday, where she faced charges including making false reports to police, dangerous driving and recklessly exposing police to risk.

The Campbellfield woman’s StarNow online talent profile lists her as a prospective “actor, extra, model, dancer and singer” looking for work.

But detective Acting Sergeant Matthew Poore told the court Ms Naboulsi, who was known to date bad boys with criminal wrap sheets, was a “chronic liar”.

In April she allegedly made three hoax calls to police in April about fabricated family violence incidents, he told the court.

In one call she allegedly lied to triple 000 operators that a woman was stabbed, while in another she said a gun was fired.

Police were dispatched on each occasion, including the K9 unit, he said, resulting in a waste of police resources that could have been sent to real emergencies.

Act-Sgt Poore also told the court Ms Naboulsi allegedly risked police members’ safety by driving at them during a petrol drive off in Traralgon on December 18, forcing them to jump out of the way.

She then allegedly lead them on a dramatic car chase to Yarragon, which only ended after she lost control of her allegedly stolen car, smashed it into an embankment and came to rest partially submerged in a lake.

“Her youth justice worker said she’s a chronic liar and nothing she says can really be believed,” Act-Sgt Poore told the court.

“I don’t have any faith the accused won’t breach her bail conditions (if freed).”

Ms Naboulsi’s lawyer told the court his client was trying to turn her life around and had started getting clean from drugs since being remanded on April 29.

But Magistrate Timothy Hoare told the court Ms Naboulsi posed an unacceptable risk to the community, and he noted she was on five counts of bail at the time of her most recent alleged offences.

“The sheer number, in both the number of offences and the dates of offending … is so significant that there is a significant likelihood that further offences will be committed in my view,” Mr Hoare said.

“It’s obviously not the decision you (Ms Naboulsi) wanted, but you are doing well so continue to do well.”
