A Wallan man who hurled abuse at police and told them he was on heroin after being caught for reckless driving has been told to control his anger.

Johnny Mikael, 30, pleaded guilty in the Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday after he was pulled over in Westmeadows in December 2022.

The tradie, who works at Total Reblocking & Underpinning, was pulled over by police while driving his white Ford Falcon.

Becoming hostile, he filmed the interaction on his phone and told police “I’m on heroin”, the court heard.

“If you make my life hard, I will make your life harder, f--k you,” he told police.

“Uncuff me, you f--ing dogs,” he said as he banged the police car windows while handcuffed.

Defence lawyer Steve Parker said Mikael was now undertaking anger management courses after a tough upbringing.

“His father was from Iraq,” he said.

“My client never lived in Iraq but suffered the consequences of his father being in the Iraqi army.

“He needs to learn skills from outside because his parents didn’t teach him — his father has no control.”

Magistrate Carolyn Burnside said Mikael “desperately” needed anger management but that “slowly but surely” he was understanding the risks with becoming emotional.

Mr Parker told the court Mikael’s remark on using heroin was a sarcastic comment, and his client was not abusing drugs.

“He was not able to control his anger. He was badly affected,” he said.

Ms Burnside accepted the comment was sarcastic.

“It sounds like a throwaway statement because people don’t use heroin these days,” she said.

Mikael was convicted, fined $350, and his licence was cancelled for two years.
