Jason Jackson holds knife to pregnant mum in Mill Park street

A pregnant woman was driving in Mill Park with her four-year-old when a man came up to her car with a knife, saying he would kill her. It turns out it wasn’t his only crime.

A man wielding a large knife told a heavily pregnant woman he was going to murder her as she sat in her car with her four-year-child in the middle of the day.

Jason Jackson admitted to threatening to kill the woman when he fronted Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, May 12, where he also faced charges over several burglaries.

The court heard the woman saw Jackson driving in a residential part of Mill Park about 1.55pm on November 11 when she decided to follow him and tell police of his whereabouts.

Leading Senior Constable Matthew Toohey said she had previously had issues with Jackson loitering in the area.

While she was following him, Jackson stopped his car in the middle of the road and got out carrying a knife with a 20cm hook blade.

He walked up to the woman, who was 34-weeks pregnant and had stopped her car behind his, and said “F*ck off, I’m going to f*cking kill you”.

The court heard she feared for her safety and the safety of her children, and pinned Jackson between the two cars as she tried to get away.

He fled the scene before police arrived.

The court heard police also found items stolen from Mill Park homes inside Jackson’s bedroom when they searched his Mill Park home on two occasions.

A raid on October 11 recovered numerous New Zealand and Australian passports, licences and bank cards in his bedroom, which had been taken when a Mill Park house was ransacked on October 3.

Jackson was on bail at the time, and wasn’t home when police went to the house about 5.50am, despite being on a curfew.

When police searched his home on December 4, they found a pS4, hair curler, two headphones, two lip glosses and a pink hair dryer, all which had been stolen from the house next door weeks earlier.

Jackson was also charged over an attempted break-in at a business on Plenty Rd, South Morang on August 5.

The former mechanic and plasterer pleaded guilty to the crimes after Magistrate Meagan Keogh indicated she would hand him a jail sentence that would be served while he was already in jail for another crime.

The court heard Jackson had been locked up since December 11 over a driving incident, which involved reckless conduct, which he was serving an eight-month jail sentence for.

His lawyer, Ms Mclure, told the court Jackson was a father who had struggled with ice use since 2015.

He was given two months’ jail for the crimes.
