A Watsonia motorcyclist in his 30s has been identified as the victim of a deadly crash on a busy main road in Preston.

Jake Massey, 33, died when he crashed his black Kawasaki motorbike on Bell St, near Quinn Grove, about 3.45pm on April 1.

Mr Massey died at the scene, and no other cars or bikes were involved in the incident.

Police blocked off Bell St between Chifley Drive and Oriel Rd for several hours on Friday afternoon following the crash.

Tributes flowed on social media for Mr Massey, known by some of his friends as ‘Jake the snake’, following news of his death.

A makeshift memorial site was created at the Bell St bridge on Sunday, containing flowers and a framed photo with angel wings.

In a tribute sent to Leader, Mr Massey’s older brother, Kane, said his sibling “knew how to drive me mad like no other” and would miss him dearly.

“We have lived together, we have fought, we have gotten into all sorts of mischief, we have laughed, and even occasionally cried together,” Kane said.

“It doesn’t feel real that you are gone and although we never got to say goodbye, brothers can never be parted, and all those memories will never die.”

Mr Massey is survived by his teenage son, father and six siblings.

His former partner Kristy King shared her grief on social media on Sunday afternoon, posting a photo of the Bell Street shrine.

“You got me through so much … I’m so sorry I couldn’t be there for you in the same way.”

Ms King, who lost a child with Mr Massey through miscarriage, said she couldn’t believe he was gone.

“Look after our bubba up there,” she posted.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the exact cause of the incident was yet to be determined and investigators were looking for witnesses and dashcam footage.

Anyone with information about the incident can phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Victoria’s 2022 road toll stands at 66, four deaths higher than at the same time last year.
