Hurstbridge Primary School teachers have put together a quirky video parody of two classic 1970s hits in a clever bid to welcome students back from remote learning next week.
The video is “going berserk” on social media, racking up more than 9000 views in just one night.
Principal Chris Tatnell said the school had not anticipated such a great response.
“We just wanted to do something fun and lighthearted to get the message out to kids and parents that they were very welcome back after weeks of remote learning,” he said.
“And in just one night it’s gotten all those views — for a school of just 190 kids it’s huge.”
Teachers can be seen singing to Gloria Gaynor’s classic 1978 song I Will Survive, with some of the lyrics adapted to highlight the current coronavirus pandemic.
Cat Stevens’ 1977 smash hit Remember the Days of the Old Schoolyard was also included into the crafty editing of the video.
“We thought the students could do with something fun and positive before next week,” Mr Tatnell said.
“All staff are involved in some way in the movie from our out of school care staff, to our technician, to office staff, principal and teachers.
“We are very proud of how well our students, parents and staff have managed the remote learning over the past two months, but also looking forward to seeing our students face-to-face again soon.”
