TAILS in Hume are wagging with the approval of three new off-leash dog areas.
Hume Council last week adopted its Dogs in Public Places Review Final Report, which aims to give dog owners more opportunities to unleash their furry friends.
Hume Mayor Geoff Porter said in addition to the existing off-leash areas, dogs would be able to roam free at the Bolinda Rd reserve in Campbellfield, Newbury Park in Craigieburn and an area adjacent to the Hume Tennis and Community Centre in Craigieburn.
The new areas will officially become leash-free once signs are installed later this year.

Meadow Heights dog owner Hayley Lewellin said off-leash parks were becoming increasingly popular, particularly for those living in high density dwellings.
“Backyards are getting smaller these days, which makes it harder for people who own bigger breeds because there’s nowhere to take them,” she said.
“Off-leash areas give dogs proper exercise and allow them to run off some energy.
“Besides, it gives dogs an opportunity to socialise with each other, which hopefully leads to less dog attacks.”
Cr Porter said while he encouraged dog owners to enjoy the new off-leash areas, he encouraged them to be diligent.
“Dog owners must ensure that their dogs are under effective control at all times when in a public place, including off-leash areas,” he said.
“All residents and visitors have the right to enjoy public land and its amenities.”
