Victoria’s first heated outdoor wave pool will be unveiled today at Funfields theme park in Whittlesea.

Volcano Beach is one of the largest wave pools of its kind in the world, with 1.5 million litres of water and waves up to 1m high.

More than 600 cubic metres of concrete was used in the multimillion-dollar development, which has been under construction since February.

Operations general manager Sam Holdich said he was thrilled to see months of hard work come to life.

About 200,000 adrenaline seekers were expected to visit the park between now and the end of summer, he said.

“We want to make sure we are the biggest and the best park in Victoria for Victorian’s to celebrate their summer,” Mr Holdich said.

The theme park, which is 40 minutes from Melbourne’s CBD, has 25 rides, including the Dragon’s Fury virtual reality ride, a 1.1km toboggan course and two 65-metre water slides.

Fourteen other family friendly attractions include the Thunderdome Go-Karts, Treasure Cove mini golf, the Tiki Bay Bumper Boats and more than 850m of water-slide action.

The worlds highest waterslide

As well as rides catering for everyone from young children under adult supervision to big time theme park fans, the park also placed an emphasis on affordability, Mr Holdich said.

“We want to make sure that everybody can afford to come to the park and if that means bringing your own barbecue food and using one of our barbecues you can.”

Tickets: 135cm+ $46, 100-134cm $38, under 100cm free, seniors $28.
