A Doreen family has not let the coronavirus put a dampener on birthday celebrations for eight-year-old Shanae.
Unable to throw a traditional birthday party, the family thought outside the box to create a bigger, better “isolation celebration”.
The celebration included a street parade of CFA trucks and other vehicles, with music blaring from car windows and lollies tossed to neighbourhood children.

Ms Wena said the “side-street party” adhered to social distancing laws, while also celebrating her daughter and lifting the spirits of her One Tree Rd neighbours.
“Shanae really wanted to do a big party and was looking forward to it all year,” she said.
“But when the restrictions came in I thought ‘what am I going to do, she’ll be so disappointed’.
“Then I saw on Youtube a family in America had done something similar so we wanted to build on that idea here.”

Ms Wena said a virtual zoom party with Shanae’s friends followed the memorable street parade.
“We are a family always looking for big ideas,” she said.
“We love to make a song and dance and we couldn’t let her birthday slide by and not do anything — this will be a beautiful memory we can all look back on later and smile.”
