UPDATE: Two dogs taken from Preston Market by a mystery woman have been returned to their owners safe and sound.
Rachel Vis and Joh Gwynn begged the public to help them locate their canine companions after they went missing on Wednesday morning.
A member of the public recognised the dogs after seeing photos of them on the internet, followed the alleged offender and called the police.
Police responded to the calls and arrested a woman late yesterday.
Ms Gwynn said they were overwhelmed with the support shown from the public and thanked everyone who spread the word.
“Dogs were tired and hungry but otherwise fine,” she said.
CCTV footage from the market appeared to show the dogs being untied while sitting outside the fruit and vegetable section.
Angus and Edna could be seen being led through the carpark and into Preston train station by an unknown woman.
Ms Gwynn said their whole world revolved around the dogs and the impact of the theft was “horrendous”.
“I don’t think people realise how hard it is when a member of your family just vanishes.
“They’re both the most adorable loveable dogs, always wanting to have a smooch and be around people.”
