Fed up locals have planted a tree in a notorious pothole near Diamond Creek station.

A caller to 3AW Breakfast’s Rumour File on Monday morning said northeast residents had taken the pothole on Main Hurstbridge Rd into their own hands, after the council failed to fix it.

But the road is actually managed by VicRoads (the Department of Transport).

On a Diamond Creek community Facebook page, group members said the pothole was in the middle of the train line crossing at Diamond Creek.

Several people in the group said they had reported the pothole to various authorities.

“I drive over it everyday. So dangerous,” Narelle Brown said on Whittlesea Leader’s Facebook page.

Mel Watson said it had killed her car’s tyre.

“Multiple times a day locals would drive over this. It’s been going for months,” she wrote.

“You literally drive around it then over the train tracks, while watching cars coming from other side.

“So dangerous.”

Nillumbik Shire Council said it a statement it appreciated the community’s concerns and frustrations over the repair of the pothole.

“This section of the road is managed by the Department of Transport and council has reported the issue to the authority requesting the pothole be fixed urgently.”

A Department of Transport spokesperson said it was working to safely repair the pothole as soon as possible.
