A Watsonia North man arrested with a dossier of other people’s personal details had previously been caught using fake IDs to try to access bank accounts set up in victims’ names.

David Henderson fronted Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, November 11, pleading guilty to a range of charges including reckless conduct while driving and using a false document.

The 32-year-old was found with the folder of people’s mail and details and more than 23g of methamphetamine, 150ml of GHB, Xanax pills, four phones and numerous stolen items when police found him driving in Reservoir about 4.40am on July 13.

The folder contained a list of many victims’ names, addresses, licence numbers, Medicare numbers, banks account numbers as well as mail and security documents.

Henderson also had stolen bank cards, and licences, one which had his photo added to it.

Police then found about 200 stolen documents, including pieces of mail from about 50 different addresses, and six stolen laptops at his Watsonia North share house.

Henderson had been caught using a fake licence at Commonwealth Bank Bundoora on January 20 to try to activate bank accounts that had unknowingly been set up in a victim’s name.

He was caught doing the same thing at Westpac at Doncaster’s The Pines shopping centre in November 2019, using a bogus licence and medicare card.

Henderson also pleaded guilty to a number of driving offences, including when he was seen driving an unregistered electric scooter with false number plates in Rosanna on October 29 on a disqualified licence.

When police tried to pull him over, Henderson sped up and drove at 70km/h on the footpath, which was being used by pedestrians.

The court heard Henderson suffered serious drug addiction, with his lawyer pushing for him to be released on a deferred sentence so he could go to drug rehabilitation for four months.

Magistrate Michael McNamara agreed, bailing Henderson to the rehabilitation facility.
