A thieving couple managed to comb $10,000 worth of goods from a Wollert display home, pinching everything from the wall decorations to the doonas and throws.

Craig Gaffy, 47, was sentenced to 124 days’ jail and a community corrections order before Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on Monday, having pleaded guilty to charges including trespassing and theft.

Gaffy and a woman were caught on CCTV spending about two and a half hours ransacking a display home in Wollert from 4.45am on January 18.

They pilfered almost the entire contents of the house, taking multiple doonas, pillows, woven baskets, decorative cushions, a coffee table, lamp, mirror and jewellery box.

The tattooed thieves even snagged the display clock and two free-standing wardrobes, as well as two TVs.

The goods were loaded into a Ford Territory, which Gaffy was seen driving to the scene, despite being an unlicensed learner driver following a shocking driving history.

As well as being caught on CCTV, Gaffy and his accomplice left washcloths they’d brought at the scene — and managed to leave their fingerprints on a stainless steel bin that didn’t make the haul.

Gaffy was found sitting behind the wheel of another car when police arrested him on January 28.

The court heard the Coburg man had an appalling criminal history, including driving, dishonesty and drug offences, and was on a community corrections order at the time, leading to him being denied bail.

Magistrate Denise Livingstone sentenced Gaffy to the 124 days’ he’d already spent in prison and banned him from getting a licence for a year, despite his lawyer’s protests.
