Coronavirus fitness: Les Mills, pilates, Sam Wood, Chris Hemsworth

While the coronavirus lockdown has us all trapped inside, some of our top Aussie fitness gurus have offered up their services to make sure you stay fit and healthy in isolation. Here are the best they have to offer.

Coronavirus: How to stay physically active in isolation

If you’re climbing the walls inside and finding yourself making too many trips to the fridge during the day it might be time to check out some of the great online fitness programs on offer.

With everything from pilates, weights, cardio and the chance you can look like the god of thunder, here are some of the best options you have for getting a complete home workout.

YMCA Members – Les Mills on Demand

If you’ve done a class at your local Y chances are it was a Les Mills session.

The global superbrand brought popular classes like Bodypump and Bodycombat to our shores, as well as a range of mindfulness exercises, yoga and youth programs.

The good news is YMCA has teamed up with Les Mills to offer 60 days of free access to more than 800 online workouts for YMCA members and family.

And if you’re not a member, Les Mills on Demand has made more than 100 workouts free for anyone to access during the lockdown period.

Fitstop

A relative newcomer on the scene, Fitstop recently opened three studios in Victoria.

Similar to F45, this franchise takes its sessions over 30 minutes of high intensity, sweat inducing workouts.

Fitstop Northcote owners Mark and Kylie Eaton recently took their classes online and have around 30 people participating three times a day.

The workouts are mostly body weight, but they challenge participants to use whatever they can around the house for an extra challenge.

Ms Eaton said the difference with their sessions was that a trainer was watching people on screen all the time, helping them through the workout and correcting their form.

“We’re constantly monitoring,” she said.

“Anybody can put out a workout that somebody can watch on screen but it’s about our community and our connection.”

Anyone can try a session for free or attend a “Social Saturday” session, entirely open to the public.

Membership is $25 a week for all the classes you can handle.
