Morning commuters in Melbourne’s west and north are facing significant delays on roads and trains after two separate emergency incidents.
Regional and Metro trains are disrupted after a man was killed after being hit by a train at Middle Footscray station about 4.50am.
The man, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said police were preparing a report for the coroner but that the death was not believed to be suspicious.
Train services are suspended on part of the Sunbury, Bendigo, Ballarat and Geelong lines.
Regional travellers are asked to allow up to 90 minutes extra time for their travel.
Buses are replacing trains on the Sunbury line between North Melbourne and Sunshine, causing delays.
Trains are operating between Sunshine and Sunbury, with delays.
A Department of Transport spokesman said authorised officers would assist passengers changing between trains and buses.
“Motorists are asked to be vigilant for extra pedestrians and buses around train stations on the Sunbury line,” he said.
“This disruption is under the control of Victoria Police. Services will only resume when investigations are complete.”
Coaches are replacing trains on the Bendigo line between Sunbury and Southern Cross.
On the Ballarat line, coaches replace trains between Caroline Springs and Southern Cross.
No Geelong line trains are operating between Wyndham Vale and Southern Cross, with coaches operating between Wyndham Vale and Werribee to connect with Metro Trains services.
A multi-vehicle crash on the M80 Ring Road between Pascoe Vale and Sydney roads in the Greensborough-bound lanes is also causing significant congestion, with delays of up to 20 minutes in both directions.
Surrounding roads, including Pascoe Vale, Mahoneys, and Camp roads, are also busier than usual.
