A crook who tried to steal a car with a terrified two-year-old boy trapped inside was stopped by two men just moments before the vehicle was about to drive away in Greensborough.
Banyule criminal investigation unit Senior Constable Jessica Tuohy said the man, in his twenties, was dropped off outside a Lorimer St address on Sunday about 2pm.
He then forced his way into the vehicle and started the engine before the desperate car owner heard the commotion, ran out from a nearby home, pulled the driver’s door open and tackled the offender.
The man in his thirties and another witness detained the offender until police arrived.
He was charged with car theft and is on remand.
