The 29-year-old had pleaded guilty to a range of charges including making threats to kill, using drugs and possessing identification documents.

Mackin led to multiple evacuations of Lower Plenty’s Odyssey House when he made anonymous threatening phone calls to its reception using a private phone number.

He made a call after 10am on August 19, telling a staff member, “There is a bomb strapped to a therapist’s car, there is also a bomb strapped to the bridge. I’m going to watch you f*ckers burn”.

Staff evacuated the centre and called police, who were unable to find the alleged bomb.

Mackin rang again about 4.31pm that day, saying, “You didn’t find the bomb in the car, you f*cking dogs, you f*cking dogs”, before hanging up.

He rang again minutes later, “Yeah yous didn’t find the f*cking bomb ya dogs, I’m coming for ya, ya boneyard rats”.

The centre was then evacuated and searched again.

Mackin rang a fourth time about 2.33pm on August 22, stating, “I’m going to come in there and start shooting the place up and kill everybody”.

Police tracked Mackin down and raided his Mill Park home on September 9, locating drugs and stolen goods in his bedroom.

Mackin also pleaded guilty to breaching a corrections order.

The court heard he suffered from drug addiction as well as bipolar disorder

Magistrate Michael McNamara sentenced Mackin to the 75 days’ he’d already spent in jail, releasing him onto the new corrections order.
