Cheetahs Softball Club star Hannah a striking talent

With her mum a state representative, it’s little wonder Hannah Scott took up softball. It’s a choice that is already paying off, with Hannah making the national team at just 13. But she’s after even higher honours.

Softballer Hannah Scott has been nominated as a Junior Sports Star for the Leader Local Sports Stars awards.

Sport: Softball

Suburb: Mernda

Club name: Cheetahs Softball Club

Coach/manager: Tony Black

How old were you when you took up your sport?

Five years old.

How did you get involved in this sport?

My whole family plays. My mum played softball for Victoria and baseball for Victoria and Australia. I used to go and watch my mum play when l was little. I remember sitting in the pram watching her and now I play alongside her and my aunty for Cheetahs Softball Club in A-grade women’s. We are back-to-back premiers.

What has been your biggest success?

My greatest achievement so far would have to be definitely making the Australian team at the age of 13. It’s been a dream for me to represent my country and I hope to one day make the Olympic team. I think that this was a huge challenge for me as there were only two Victorians in the team. The coach was from WA, so I really had to work hard to get in the starting team.

Describe your training routine:

I train three to four days a week on my softball skills, strength and fitness. I also play Australian rules football and do kickboxing to keep up my fitness. I have represented Victoria in karate. My mum and I go running together and I travel as far as Frankston/ Dandenong two to three times a week to train.
