The kilometre-long missing section between the Darebin Creek Trail, which runs through Banyule, Darebin and Whittlesea, and the Main Yarra Trail near the Eastern Freeway in Kew East is expected to be open to the public by the end of 2017.

The path will take cyclists through Latrobe Golf Club and Willsmere Park.

Concerns have been raised over the lack of access to the path in Alphington.

The path will be entirely fenced off through the suburb, after protests from the golf club and Alphington Grammar School.

Workers have yet to install ramps and railings on the 60m bridge, which is expected to be officially completed in August.
