The “unacceptable” actions of St Kilda beachgoers defying lockdown restrictions was slammed by Premier Daniel Andrews, but a photo of visitors to a Northcote park has won high praise from thousands, including chief health officer Brett Sutton.

Visitors to a Northcote park have won praise from Victoria’s chief health officer Brett Sutton for their social distancing efforts.

Twitter user Owen Minogue shared a photo of All Nations Park in Northcote on Friday, showing park-goers keeping plenty of space between groups as they enjoyed the balmy night.

“This is how you enjoy a spring evening in the park with your household and socially distance,” he wrote.

In response Mr Sutton said: “This is great. We can, and should, enjoy the outdoors. Safely. Well done.”

More than 9000 Twitter users liked the tweet.

It was a stark contrast to the behaviour of beachgoers who crowded the shore at St Kilda on Friday night.

Premier Daniel Andrews said the scenes were “unacceptable.”

Mr Sutton said on Twitter: “Don’t risk everything. What we can hold back now means a truly normal summer. Please – Hold. The. Line.”
