A Macleod institution has been crowned the best hairdressing salon in Melbourne’s north.

Hair by Ciccone was chosen by Leader readers as the best for 2021.

Frank Ciccone, who owns the business with his wife Helen, said the win really belonged to their team.

“We‘ve had amazing staff, and at the moment, this is big for the team more than anyone else, because of what they’ve gone through in the last in the last 18 months.” he said.

“I dedicate this award to the whole Ciccone team. It‘s more for them than anyone else really.”

Hair by Ciccone was established by Frank and Helen in 1996 and have since built a loyal customer base across the north.

“We‘ve had clients come from past Thomastown, and Taylor’s Lakes, Preston, Thornbury, Northcote, Reservoir, and Fawkner as well.” Frank said.

The secret to their quarter century of success has been customer service.

“We lend an ear here basically, and we just listen to what people are going through and if we can support them in any way, we do.” he said.

“We’ve had people come in who’ve been diagnosed with cancer and they need to shave their hair off because they’re going through chemo, and they’re trusting us with this life changing event for them, and we’re part of it with them.”

Hair by Ciccone has also been a sought-after salon by celebrities over the years, having catered for artists at the ARIA awards such as Sia, INXS and Slash.

Hair by Ciccone has also catered for the Logies and Emmy Awards.

Frank said they’d also looked after sporting celebrities like Tim Cahill and other AFL players who had come to the salon.

The salon has been a regular favourite among local business competitions throughout its history, having previously won the Fox FM Best of Melbourne competition in 2000, the Banyule Best Biz Awards in 2015 and 2018 and six Leader News Business Awards between 2004 and 2010, for which it was inducted into the Leader News Business Hall of Fame.
