Two men were approached by a group of men in Carlton before they were allegedly assaulted and threatened with knives.
Police were called to the Lygon St location following reports of the alleged assaults about 11pm, August 22.
No one was hurt and the five alleged offenders left the scene in a vehicle.
The car was located at the intersection of Dryburgh and Arden streets in North Melbourne and the five occupants — a 26-year-old Tarneit man, a 24-year-old Footscray man, a 20-year-old Collingwood man, 20-year-old Dandenong North man and a 23-year-old Fitzroy man — were arrested.
They are assisting police with their inquiries.
