A car has flipped in a collision on High St, Preston after a police chase
A man has been charged after a high speed police chase in an allegedly stolen vehicle that ended after it was T-boned by another car, narrowly missing pedestrians.
An allegedly stolen car flipped on its side after it was T-boned in a dramatic high speed chase through a busy shopping strip in Melbourne’s north, narrowly missing pedestrians.
Emergency services were called to a collision on High St, Preston near David St where an car flipped after colliding with another vehicle during a police chase.
The car allegedly sped through Bruce St and across into High St where it collided with a car about 10am on Wednesday before it crashed into a brick wall connected to Melbourne Power Tools & Repairs.
No staff at the shop were injured.
A 51-year-old Altona man was charged with theft of motor vehicle, driving while suspended, driving under the influence of drugs and driving in a manner dangerous.
He was bailed to appear at Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court in February.
A woman in her 50s was transported to the Austin Hospital with upper body injuries in a stable condition.
A witness said it was “lucky no pedestrians were killed” in the area filled with cafes and restaurants.
The witness said police had “turned their lights on” on Bruce St “as though they were waiting” for the driver.
Police closed High St southbound between Cramer St and Bell St as a result.
It comes two days after a man was killed on Keilor Rd, Niddrie after a driver flew over kerb and smashed into him, following through for 30m into the Essendon Health Medical Centre and causing significant damage inside.
