A young father on his way home from work has been killed in a horrific crash in West Melbourne this afternoon.
Police were called to the intersection of Appleton Dock Rd and Anderson Rd about 3.50pm on Wednesday following reports of a smash between a truck and a motorcyclist.
Tearful colleagues, who told the Leader they worked with the man at ACFS Port Logistics in Appleton Dock Rd, said it was a “hard” thing to see.
One man said he saw the man travelling straight on Appleton Dock Rd when the truck, which was turning into Anderson St, ploughed through him.
The smash happened just outside the man’s workplace.
The man, believed to be 25 years old, was on his way home to Tarneit and had just clocked off for the day when tragedy struck, another man said.
“We’re really good friends with him,” the man, who did not wish to be named, said.
“He’s a very nice person, very nice. Down to earth and very friendly.”
A woman, believed to be the man’s wife, arrived on scene with other members of the man’s family.
Police are currently at the crash site and the truck driver is assisting police with their inquiries.
Another of the man’s colleagues told the Leader the road was dangerous and a similar fatal collision between a truck and a motorist killed a man at the same location about three years earlier.
