IT’S not every day a Morticia Addams-inspired bride marries a vampire in the presence of the grim reaper, but anything is possible on Halloween.

Westmeadows couple Jeremy Grima and new wife Nikki (nee Carnie) spookily tied the knot on Saturday evening in front of family, friends, zombies and werewolves in a ceremony that strayed far from the traditional exchange of vows.

The pair have been together for more than 20 years, with their intention to have a small union.

“I said, ‘Maybe we should have a Halloween party’,” Mr Grima said.

“We thought, ‘We’re never going to do the traditional white wedding (so) let’s go the whole hog’.”

Ditching the accustomed black suit and tie for a long Cossack coat, Mr Grima’s style was taken from Hollywood actor Brad Pitt’s ghoulish character in 1994 film Interview with the Vampire.

The new Mrs Grima swapped the fairytale white wedding dress for a Morticia-like gown.

“(Our family) are all really happy,” Mr Grima said before the wedding.

“We announced it back in January. As far as we know, everyone that’s coming is getting into the theme of things.

“It gets all the stress out of the white wedding.”

The newlyweds were married at Greenvale Recreation Centre by one of the best in the business, celebrant Tim Manger, a.k.a the grim reaper.

He said his updated costume had been “marginally more scary” than his attire at a previous Halloween wedding last year in Frankston.

No stranger to themed weddings — he has confessed to impersonating Darth Vader “quite well” — Mr Manger said he enjoyed when couples did things differently.

“One thing I deplore is boring,” he said.

“I love something that’s different and interesting — somebody’s gone to a little bit of trouble.

“Every single bride in Melbourne does the same thing week in and week out.

“It’s nice when people step outside the square.”

And while some of his requests are a little more out of left field — “nude not even being close to the strangest” — Mr Manger ensures each couple’s day goes according to their plans.

“I don’t even bat an eyelid with this stuff as it’s just fabulous.”
