A western suburbs man allegedly caught with a cache of weapons and drugs at a Sunshine West house is back behind bars.
Joel Diamond sought bail at Sunshine Magistrates’ Court on April 17 after Brimbank detectives stormed his Glengala Rd home on February 5.
Police allegedly seized several guns, gun parts – including homemade silencers – and hundreds of rounds of ammunition during the raid.
Detectives also allegedly seized a handheld taser, knuckledusters, a slingshot, a samurai sword, an extendible baton, a Protective Services Officer’s cap, glass beakers, meth and cocaine.
The big haul came when police allegedly discovered 87 cannabis plants growing at the rear of the property.
Police pounced on Diamond after he allegedly assaulted his partner’s stepdad with a pickaxe earlier that day, the court heard.
Diamond allegedly attacked the man as he sat in a car outside another Glengala Rd property just after 7.30am.
Diamond allegedly smashed the windscreen and driver’s side window of his victim’s car with the pickaxe.
He then allegedly attacked his victim with the weapon, the court heard.
The court heard the man drove forward to escape the frenzied assault but Diamond smashed the back window before fleeing on a bike.
The court heard Diamond and a co-accused were the only people living at the Glengala Rd house at the time of the raid.
A Brimbank detective told Magistrate Urfa Masood police were awaiting the results of DNA samples taken from the guns and other seized items.
Police opposed bail because Diamond would “endanger the safety or welfare of any person” if released.
Diamond – who appeared via videolink from Ravenhall Correctional Centre – has indicated he will contest the charges.
