A CROOK found with two loaded unregistered guns and more than 100 grams of ice at his Epping home will only spend six months in prison.
Represented by prominent underworld lawyer Zarah Garde Wilson, Mark Bosa was sentenced in the Victorian County Court on March 23 after earlier pleading guilty to a range of gun and drugs charges.
He was arrested in August 2016 only days after police executed a search warrant at his Epping home, where they uncovered a loaded 9mm Berretta semiautomatic handgun.
The Berretta had no serial number and was unregistered.
Police also found a loaded and unregistered Browning semiautomatic handgun.
A number of drugs including MDMA, cocaine and meth were also found at Bosa’s residence.
More than 100 grams of meth was found near the air filter of a grey 2016 Harley Davidson motorbike in the garage.
Bosa told police during an interview the drugs were all for his own personal use and he owned the guns.
He said he got the guns for “safety” because he had been receiving “serious threats” but didn’t elaborate to police on the nature of the threats.
Judge Julie Condon said Bosa’s offences were serious
“While this is your first foray into criminal activity, Mr Bosa, you having no prior criminal history, it is in my view a serious and concerted first foray,” Judge Condon said.
“In sentencing you I am also required to balance the interests of the community in denouncing criminal conduct with the interests of the community in seeking to ensure, as far as possible, that offenders are rehabilitated and reintegrated into society.”
She said if Bosa hadn’t pleaded guilty he would have been jailed for two years.
Bosa had already spent 37 days in custody at the time of sentencing.
