Two-storey kindergarten centre announced for Maidstone

Extra kindergarten places are on the way in Maribyrnong, with construction to start on a $4.5 million centre in Maidstone. And artists have revealed how the centre will look.

A new state-of-the-art kindergarten has been announced for Maidstone.

The two-storey facility, to be built on Hampstead Rd, will provide long day care, kindergarten and allied health services.

The centre will cost $4.5 million with construction to begin in April.

It is expected to be completed by the start of the 2021 school year.

The centre will be built by KU Children’s Services and will bump up the number of available kindergarten places in the inner west by 33.

KU Children’s Services chief Christine Legg said she was “very excited” to be developing an integrated children’s centre at Maidstone.

“(The centre) will provide long day care for 65 children, including kindergarten programs for 33 children,” she said.

“This underpins the Victorian Government’s investment of $5 billion over the next ten years to ensure every three year old child has access to kindergarten.”

Footscray state Labor MP Katie Hall said the project was all about boosting early learning places in the inner west.

“This exciting new project will ensure local children can get the most out of their time at kindergarten,” she said.

The State Government has committed one million to the kindergarten as part of the Children’s Facilities Capital Program and Inclusive Kindergarten Facilities Program.
