Two women have been injured in Brunswick this morning after a car ploughed into a Bunnings on Sydney Rd.
A white Toyota hatchback crashed through the doorway of the Bunnings, breaking the door frame and glass, just after 10.30am, with paramedics, firefighters and police attending the scene.
A woman in her 60s was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with lower body injuries. The other woman, also in her 60s, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Both are in a stable condition.
Brunswick’s Mark Tabone, 34, who came across the scene just before 11am, said two women walking past were pinned between the car and shopfront.
Mr Tabone said he saw one of the women being taken away on a stretcher by paramedics.
“(The crash) must have been with considerable speed because he obviously pinned two women,” Mr Tabone said.
He said the car had completely mounted the footpath.
“The front of the Bunnings was sort of damaged, the car didn’t go through the shop at all,” Mr Tabone said.
“It was something you don’t normally see.”
A Victoria Police spokesman said investigations were ongoing but it appeared the driver had lost control and crashed into the store.
The two women were trapped for a short time before the driver reversed to free them, the police spokesman said.
The driver was uninjured and is assisting police at the scene.
