ANOTHER two suburbs are to be built in Melbourne’s north.
The state government this morning announced Beveridge North West and Beveridge Central, part of a release of 17 new suburbs in the state including Wollert and Donnybrook and Woodstock which have already been announced.
Planning Minister Richard Wynne said the government was taking action to boost land supply and cut delays in approvals to make housing more affordable for Victorians.
“This is all about ensuring there is plenty of new housing coming to market to suit the varied needs of Victorian families, stay ahead of population growth and make new homes as affordable as possible,” Planning Minister Richard Wynne said.
“We have to make the best of land we already have, and our new inclusionary housing pilot will create up to 100 new social housing homes, helping Victorians in need.”
Beveridge North West will be 1260ha and is expected to accommodate more than 9000 residential lots and more than 25,000 people.
Beveridge Central will be 513ha with space for 3640 dwellings to accommodate more than 10,193 new residents.
The previous announcements of Wollert and the Quarry Hills Precinct in Donnybrook/ Woodstock have been subject to criticism by people in the area who say there is already a “congestion crisis” and more suburbs will only add to that.
