A Coburg North fiend well on the path to becoming a commercial airline pilot has been grounded after he was nabbed with vile child abuse material.

Christopher Moder, 28, avoided a conviction after pleading guilty in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday to producing and possessing child pornography charges.

Moder uploaded child abuse material to Facebook which landed him on the radar of federal anti child exploitation police in December 2018.

Moder posted an upskirt image of a girl on an escalator, a photo of a clothed child and an image of naked pre-pubescent girl on a bed.

Investigators raided Moder’s Coburg North home and seized mobile phones, a laptop and a USB in May 2019.

Police later discovered 874 child abuse material files on a mobile phone.

The vile material included upskirt images of young girls in school uniforms walking through a shopping centre and video titled ‘Blonde First Hairs’.

Moder was also caught with a graphic video of a young girl being penetrated.

Moder made “no admissions” regarding the child pornography when interviewed by police but confirmed his Facebook profile.

The defence submitted Moder “came across” a vile child abuse video which he attempted to delete but “accidentally” uploaded to his Facebook profile.

The court heard Moder undertook a commercial airline pilot course and only had 70 hours of training to go.

“That was his end goal to be a pilot …” Moder’s lawyer said.

“Unfortunately that career may now be in tatters … he’s of quite high intelligence, he also hopes to become an electrician …

“It appears this image has popped up and he’s made the mistake of not deleting it, no one would put it on their Facebook page your honour that would be immediately red-flagged by the federal police.”

Moder also submitted a letter to the court where outlined the impact child abuse material had on the victims.

Magistrate Greg McNamara also sentenced Moder to an 18-month community correction order with 60 hours of unpaid community work.

Moder was made a registered sex offender for 15 years.
