Thomastown: Drugs and taser allegedly found at Pioneer Court property

Police who raided a Thomastown house said up to 100 people a day were going there. And when the couple who rented it appeared in court, it was revealed what made the house such a drawcard.

Police allegedly found 18.5 grams of methamphetamine in the house.

Police allegedly found a woman pouring drugs down a sink during an early morning drug raid on a Thomastown property.

A taser and a hefty amount of drugs were allegedly found inside the Pioneer Court house — which was known for attracting up to a hundred visitors a day — when police raided it early on Friday, May 15, arresting the couple renting the property.

Nathan Whelan was denied bail when he went before Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court later that day, while his partner, Nicole Moretti, did not apply for bail.

The court heard police allegedly found more than six times the trafficable amount of methamphetamine and records of drug dealing in their home.

Officers forced their way through the front door about 6am after the pair allegedly refused to open it.

Leading Senior Constable Lee-anne Meade said police then saw Moretti allegedly pouring what they believed to be about 500ml of GHB down the sink, stopping her before she got rid of the last of the clear liquid in the 750ml water bottle.

They allegedly then found 18.5 grams of methamphetamine, several hundred millilitres of GHB in various containers and a small bag of ecstasy.

Four tick books containing lists of names of customers, weights and prices, as well as a large amount of deal bags, syringes, scales and four phones were also allegedly found around the house.

A taser was allegedly sitting on the coffee table, while numerous power tools believed to be stolen, stolen IDs and a CCTV hard drive were seized.

Whelan told the court none of the drugs were his.

“I wasn’t trafficking,” he said.

“Yes, I knew about it. But what am I supposed to do about it?”

But Leading Sen Constable Meade said police had found history of drug trafficking and amounts owed to people on his personal phone.

The court heard police had been running an ongoing investigation into the dealings at the house and were worried Whelan would offend if released.

Whelan, who represented himself, argued he should also be bailed because he suffered from PTSD.

But Magistrate Meagan Keogh said she was concerned he would offend if he was released.

“There’s a significant amount of drugs found in the house,” she said.

“The matters are too serious.”
