THE BRUNSWICK Hotel has been forced to close its doors indefinitely due to flood damage, after a car hit a fire hydrant outside the pub.

Staff at the Sydney Rd hotel were alarmed to find water dripping into the venue’s beer garden in the early hours of March 22, following the accident nearby.

While revellers quickly began dancing in the newly-formed fountain, security were forced to evacuate the venue, manager David Frankie Cudmore said.

“I was at home and got a call and got out of bed to find people dancing under the water,” Mr Cudmore said.

“The stage area with all the PA equipment was flooded and the ceiling collapsed in a few places.”

Fans were put in place to dry out the venue while ruined stock was counted, but it was the future of the hotel’s employees that Mr Cudmore was most worried about.

A Facebook callout saw other venues reach out with offers of casual shifts for staff, which Mr Cudmore said was very heartening.

He couldn’t put a timeline on the reopening of the venue but urged regulars to follow progress of repairs on Facebook.
