Police responded to an incident at Monash University's Clayton campus where a taser was used in an attempted robbery.

A taser is alleged to have been used by a 14-year-old on a man in his 20s during an attempt to steal his backpack at a bus stop outside Monash University’s Clayton campus.

A witness to the event, who asked not to be named, was waiting for the 703 bus when they overheard Monash security guards talking on the phone.

When the witness got on the bus they said four to six Monash guards boarded the bus, led by a man in a hat.

“I heard him say that these are the two people who tasered someone trying to steal a bag,” they told Leader.

“I didn’t hear any response from the two blokes accused but they walked off the bus without a fuss.”

Ingrid Song, who arrived at the bus stop shortly after the alleged incident about 2.10pm, said she saw the man who was apparently tasered.

“He seemed okay to me, not really visibly upset,” she said.

“I think he was an international student because his English didn’t seem great, but I’m not sure, I couldn’t really hear what he was saying.

“An older man, who looked like staff or something, made a grabbing or jabbing kind of motion and was confirming with the student that someone had done that to him.”

Valerie Wijaya, who videoed the police presence, said she saw someone in handcuffs and about four or five police cars and “a bunch of cops”.

A police spokesman confirmed the incident.

“Police were called to a bus stop off Wellington Rd about 2.15pm after reports a conducted energy device had been used on a man in his 20s,” he said.

“The victim was taken to a hospital by paramedics.”

The 14-year-old boy has since been released pending summons.

He is expected to be charged with weapon and assault related offences.
