Sunbury mother Jasmine Tame pleaded guilty to drug trafficking after ice found in bra

When police knocked at this Sunbury mum’s door, she took swift action to hide evidence, a court has heard.

Australia's Growing Drug Crisis

A single Sunbury mum was busted by police with a stash of ice in her underwear, a court has heard.

Jasmine Tame, 30, pleaded guilty to eight charges including included trafficking and possession of methylamphetamine, possession of stolen registration plates and possessing $6665 in suspected proceeds of crime at Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Police raided Tame’s Sunbury house in early April and found 40 grams of methylamphetamine hidden in her bra, as well as more of the drug in her bedroom along with $6665 in cash.

The court heard two bottles of 1,4-Butanediol were also found.

Tame claimed the cash was money she had borrowed, and the drugs belonged to three friends who were staying with her at the time.

She told police she had only hidden the methylamphetamine in her bra because she panicked when she saw it as she went to answer the door.

Tame refused to give police access to her phone and tablet, and was also charged with failing to do so when directed.

Although she has previously been subjected to a community corrections order, this was the first time Tame had spent more than a night in police custody.

The mum claimed she started using methylamphetamine as a coping mechanism following an attack when she was 13, and had only been able to stop using the drug while pregnant with her children.

Tame, who is unemployed, said the three friends who she claimed had brought the drugs into her house had been staying with her following the breakdown of her relationship.

The Magistrate noted the seriousness of Tame’s possession charge, pointing out that she had been in possession of 13 times the trafficable quantity of methylamphetamine.

Tame will be sentenced at a later date.
