DAVID Evans doesn’t look like the sort of person who would collect teddy bears.
But that hasn’t stopped him gathering more than 70 cuddly toys in the past couple of weeks.
The Sunbury resident put out the call for bears on social media after meeting representatives of pregnancy and child loss charity, Angel Baby.
“I heard about their Travelling Angel Bear awareness campaign and thought it would be easy to collect some teddy bears,” Mr Evans said.
“I bought 35 myself at garage sales and the rest were donations from people through the Sunbury Region Community Page on Facebook.”
Angel Baby secretary Tabitha Page said pregnancy and child loss was a very taboo subject.
“It scares people. So we are trying to get people talking by placing teddy bears with information packs randomly on people’s doorsteps.”
Mr Evans said he was passionate about supporting women and happy to keep collecting bears for Angel Baby.
“It’s women who go through the hard stuff,” he said.
“It’s easy for a guy to collect teddy bears and I think it helps people to give.”
To donate, call 0418 134 850 or drop off teddy bears at Nanna’s Roasts in Brook St, Sunbury.
