A young boy’s world has been rocked after a shock cancer diagnosis but the prospect of being a groomsman for his old man and a trip to Disneyland have motivated him through treatment.
Chase Morgan spent the past summer holidays as most boys do, playing video games, hanging out with mates, and looking after his younger sisters.
But over the Christmas break, his family noticed something was not right when the 11-year-old’s leg ballooned to double the size and they sought medical advice.
An emotional rollercoaster commenced when a specialist flagged it may be cancer before they said it was unlikely, but more tests would deliver the devastating news.
Following the diagnosis, a GoFundMe was established which has already raised $34,000 to help Chase in his fight against cancer.
Since January, his family has banded around their “little warrior” and have lined up activities and adventures, such as mini golf and bowling, to celebrate the end of each chemotherapy cycle.
Dad Daniel Morgan said two things in particular were helping him stay positive and determined through treatment.
“I’ll be getting married soon and after moving things around to line up with his treatment, I got to ask whether he would be my groomsman on the big day,” Mr Morgan said.
“We have also decided to give Chasey an end goal, something to look forward to after this nightmare is over, so that’s why we will be taking him to Disneyland in Japan when we get the all-clear from his doctors.
“We are overwhelmed by the generosity and love, you never dream that people would come together for you like this and we are grateful to every single person that has chipped in.”
Chase’s entire family — including Daniel and his partner Jen and his mum Cassandra and partner Phil — have been overwhelmed by the support of their friends and community which have popped round for visits or dropped off care packages.
Daniel’s mother quit her job and Cassandra’s mum moved down from Queensland to help take care of him.
Another source of inspiration for Chase was from his favourite YouTube channel, Sam and Colby, after it was revealed the american YouTuber Colby Brock had his own cancer fight last year.
Family members also established the GoFundMe which, as of Friday, had received contributions from more than 300 donors to ease the financial burden of medical expenses and travel.
Chase, a massive Pokemon and Mario fan, is looking forward to his Disneyland trip, but first he has a battle to win.
