State Government looks at multistorey car park options
Shoppers and commuters struggling to find a park in traffic-choked Sunbury could soon find relief under a proposal for a huge new multi-storey carpark which would double the number of spaces in the town’s CDB. And it’s in a “terrific location”.

The number of promised car parks in Sunbury could double, according to a new State Government announcement.
The State Government committed to building 300 car parks at the Sunbury station last year, but recent discussions between state Sunbury Labor MP Josh Bull and Hume Council had revealed a new option.
Mr Bull and Hume mayor Carly Moore told the Leader exclusively that they were exploring options to build a multi-deck car park at the corner of Station and Evans St, behind Harris Scarfe.
The Leader understands approximately 300 shopper and trader car spaces would be added, in addition to 300 commuter spots promised last year.
The original proposal explored delivering 300 spaces by extending a multi-deck car park on the train station’s western side.
Mr Bull said the corner lot was a “terrific location” for a multistorey car park.
“We’ve got a really good opportunity to work with the council to deliver 300 car parks for commuters,” he said.
“And on top of that, a significant number of new parks for shoppers and traders.”
The State Government and the council will undertake site assessments, environmental and technical investigations to explore options.
Mr Bull said confirmed second option would deliver “hundreds” of extra parks for Sunbury.
Cr Moore said the extra spaces would provide for local business owners.
“The Sunbury community has told us on numerous occasions that they want more carparking in the Sunbury town centre,” she said.
“Sunbury is a fast growing community and we are committed to working with the community to achieve the best outcomes.”
Sunbury councillor Jack Medcraft and local businessman Glenn Ingram had both previously expressed a desire to build a multistorey car park on the site.

Mr Bull said the State Government and the council would now work closely with the Level Crossing Removal Authority to “make sure we can remove the level crossing and deliver the carparking as well”.
It’s believed the Authority will carry out site investigations from next week until September.
“We’ve committed to remove the level crossing by 2025,” he said.
“I would be optimistic in saying it would be earlier than that. The detailed design work can start very soon.”
Mr Bull said the finances were being “worked through” at the moment.
